From The Editor...

The evening was filled with excitement and wonderful scents permeated the air.  50 Chefs from
the finest restaurants in the area gathered together to help benefit The No Kid Goes Hungry,
Taste of The Nation event on Thursday June 2nd. 2011 at the Broward Convention Center in
Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  The room was decorated in beautiful colors of white and orange with
white pool tables and a VIP section to entertain the guests.  Mike Sipe’s band rocked the
evening as did Paul and Young Ron from radio station Big 105.9 who mc'd the chef cook off
competition onstage.  Auctions were held for the highest bidder and some of the prizes were a
dinner for 10 at the Blue Moon restaurant which included wine.   Also auctioned was a 3 day, 3
nights  hotel with dinner at STK.  Johnny V bid for and won a safari to Joannesburg, Africa with 2
tours a day, look out for the lions Johnny!

Florida Bride Magazine had the oportunity to speak with Sander Schrantz from Volunteer
Broward.  Sander  had to say “Our volunteers report to this event each year.  It is a great event
that helps bring awareness to an issue in our community that too often goes unnoticed.  It is a
beautiful evening where everyone can have a good time, get some good food and contribute to
a great cause.”

No one would have gone hungry at this event organized  by Panaches Kelly
Murphy where a portion of your future event rentals can benefit Share Our
Strength.  In the world’s wealthiest nation, no child should grow up hungry says
Bill Shore the founder of Share Our Strength, yet 1.7 million children in America
struggle with hunger. That’s almost one in four kids who can’t count on getting
enough nutritious food to learn, grow and thrive.

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation is the nation’s premier culinary benefit
dedicated to making sure no child grows up hungry.  It is held in nearly 40 cities
across the United States and Canada, and attracts thousands of attendees each
year.  The No Kid Hungry Campaign and Pledge were both launched with the
help of Academy Award-winning actor and long-time anti-hunger activist Jeff
Bridges. To help fight hunger go to www.strength.org.
One of the ways that we can help fight hunger is through our weddings.  Any bride and groom
wishing to donate extra food that is left over from your reception can contact Feeding South
Florida, a non-profit organization which empowers other South Florida not-for-profit
organizations to feed needy people and improve their lives.

You can reach them  at www.feedingsouthflorida.org .  Also, The South Florida Hunger Coaliton
which maintains the food pantries throughout Broward County.
 Anyone needing assistance can
contact The Food Pantry in Fort
Lauderdale which has been open
for 17 years 5 days a week, and
feeds anywhere from seventy five
to ninety families a week.
